10 home trends to watch for in 2018

Home trends change as the market changes. The younger generation has a lot of influence on what is in style for any particular year. Here are a few trends that are hot in 2018:

  1. Colourful appliances are definitely in this year. Move over stainless steel and make room for bright shades of colour throughout the house. A brightly coloured appliance will set the pace for the entire room.

  2. Darker coloured sinks made from copper, stone, granite or concrete will replace the traditional white sinks. These sturdy sinks will draw the attention in the room with their unique designs.

  3. Vintage style light fixtures, such as chandeliers, pendants, and even lanterns will replace the more modern styles. Vintage styles bring a sense of elegance to the room while creating a more subtle light pattern.

  4. Concrete accents are replacing white marble in the new style homes. The passive colour of white is no longer preferred over the more exciting concrete accents adding a distinctive design of the room.

  5. Enjoy going to the spa? Then you will love the new bathroom designs. Giving bathrooms a spa-like appearance with massaging whirlpool tubs, steam showers and body jets is all the rage in 2018. These upgrades will turn your bathroom into a private retreat.

  6. More flexible spaces are replacing the dedicated areas. In years past, new homes have been set up with designated places for appliances and entertainment but not in the new 2018 designs. In 2018, the homeowner gets to decide where to put the television instead of the designer.

  7. Wood floors are still in but they look different. Wider planks in lighter colours, such as beige and gray, are replacing the darker ebony colours.

  8. Crown moulding is taking on a simpler look painted the same colour as the wall it protects. Instead of the frilly designs around the baseboards, they now blend in with the rest of the décor.

  9. Rooms are taking on more vibrant colours creating a happier atmosphere in the home. Gone are the earth tones and neutral colours replaced by brighter colours of purple, orange, and emerald green.

  10. Gold and brass fixtures are replacing the once popular silver colour. The new generation is not as fond of the silver colour of yesterday. The new fixtures going into homes today take on more of an antique appearance.

The new trends in 2018 designs are setting a stage in comfort and appearance. Enjoy some of the older antique styles together with the new ones. Let your home take on a life of its own.
