How to Keep Your Home Fresh and Clean This Summer

How to Keep Your Home Fresh and Clean This Summer
June 26, 2020

Summer is now in full swing and we couldn’t be happier! With the warmer weather, we’ll be spending a lot of our time outdoors relaxing in the summer sun now that COVID-19 restrictions in Ontario are starting to ease up (remember to keep practicing physical distancing and good frequent hand hygiene!). However, it’s also important to prioritize housekeeping and maintain simple cleaning practices over the next few months. Here are a few quick and easy tips to make sure your home stays fresh and sparkling clean!

  • Plan Out Your Cleaning Days Summertime is all about relaxing, so plan a cleaning schedule ahead of time so you won’t have to do all cleaning tasks in one day and feel overwhelmed. Set a certain time during different days throughout the week dedicated to cleaning and organizing your home so you still have time to relax and enjoy your summer days.
  • Do a Thorough Clean Sweep It’s important to do a whole sweep of your home so there won’t be any buildup of dust bunnies lurking around the corners of the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. Too much dust and debris in your home can also cause air quality problems, so make it a habit to sweep the floors every other day and vacuum your carpets and rugs at least twice a week.
  • Clean All Kitchen Cabinets Your cabinets play a vital role in your kitchen. They’re there for all of your storage and organization needs, but they also attract dust and tiny food particles that sometimes go unnoticed. All the oils and spills can also stick to your cabinets, which can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Prevent dust and grime build up by adding shelf liners, avoiding water exposure as much as possible, applying wood furniture wax on the exterior, and using a chemical-free solution such as water and vinegar to clean them.
  • Clean the Bathrooms Bathrooms are often humid places, due to the amount of water vapour in the air from taking hot showers. This might not seem like a big deal, but it can also cause problems such as mildew, mold and odours. Prevent any of these from growing in your bathroom by wiping mirrors and countertops with a microfiber cloth, cleaning the sink and shower and wiping the floors with a damp towel. Summer tip: hang wet mats and damp towels outside in your backyard or balcony to air-dry in the sun!
