This summer has brought the heat, and although the season is wrapping up, the warm weather seems to be here to stay for a little while longer. It may be time to hit the beach.

In the Greater Toronto Area, you have plenty of options, from small, quiet areas on the water to long, busy stretches of sandy shoreline. Here are a few of them.

Wasaga Beach

Wasaga Beach is the world’s longest freshwater beach. It is a popular tourist destination with six white sandy beaches and panoramic views of the Niagara Escarpment. There are stretches of booming restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as plenty of places to stay, from campgrounds to hotels.

Sauble Beach

Located northwest of Toronto near Owen Sound, Sauble Beach is actually the world’s second-longest freshwater beach after Wasaga. Featuring white sand and stunning views, the drive (about three hours from downtown Toronto) is worth your time. Between shopping, dining, golf, hiking trails, and more, there’s something for everyone.

Kelso Conservation Area

Kelso is a human-made reservoir in Milton that features a 35-hectare lake and a lifeguard supervised beach. This conservation area offers beautiful escarpment views and, because it’s smaller than the great lakes, the water is warmer throughout the season. In addition to lounging on the beach and swimming, you can also rent a boat, paddleboard, go fishing, or stroll along the boardwalk.

Grand Bend Beach

Grand Bend Beach consists of 20 acres of stunning sandy waterfront. Located on the shore of Lake Huron, it has earned Blue Flag status for its commitment to strict water quality and safety. Spend your time at the popular Main Beach or relax on the quieter, less crowded South Beach.
